Frontier Series
- Umeya Continues Exploration -
The Frontier Series is a koto, a Japanese musical instrument designed completely in-house.
We have been involved in sales and maintenance for many years.
What is the sound that customers like? We have always felt and thought about it.
In the age of mass production, the sound of koto has changed drastically, and it is rare to encounter its unique "yugen -delicate beauty-" sound.
The Frontier Series is our originally designed instrument that pursues the original sound and ease of use that is being lost.
There are three models in the Frontier series, of which the concert model is the one we have put the most effort into designing.
The Concert Model is a model that pursues the "quality" of sound rather than the power of sound.
The Standard model is a model that focuses on the balance between volume and quality so that anyone can enjoy any kind of music.
The Academic model is a low-priced model while still being a highly motivating instrument.
We invite you to experience the tone for yourself.

The wood that forms the base of the sounds of the Frontier Series is produced in Aizu and Tsunan in the Tohoku region, which is said to be the best material for koto. We manufacture a limited number of materials from these limited area. The characteristic of this series is that it has a tenacity and profoundness that cannot be obtained from foreign woods and does not lose the core of the instrument's sound for 20 or 30 years.

We manufacture the Frontier Series, designed by ourselves, on an OEM basis at our partner factories. We have been working with craftsmen who have been particular about domestic and handmade work for many years, and we as a team, exchanging opinions and discuss ideas, with them to seek results in sound and resonance, and raise the quality of sound over the quality of appearance.
For example, “we traditionally have been making them this way for a long time, but we choose another way because it actually transmits sound vibrations better.”
We were finally able to release this product because we were able to design and manufacture with a pioneering spirit.
We are producing the Frontier Series with the hope of making the genuine koto easier to understand and more enjoyable for everyone to use.
